About Byaas
How do you pronounce Byaas?
Byaas is pronounced "Beas" (BEE-ahs), like the river our name comes from.
Where does the name Byaas come from?
There is a river in Punjab called the Beas, and a town of the same name on its banks. Our founder visited often as a child and remembers it as the place she felt most at peace: still water, quiet days and a sense that life was being lived a little more deliberately. When it came time to name the company, she spelled it the way it lived in her memory. Byaas.
What does Byaas stand for?
Purity, not as an aesthetic but as a way of working. Every piece passes through hands that care, and we try to run the company the same way: be truthful, be fair, do the work properly and stand behind it completely. If something we made does not hold up, we make it right.
What is Byaas?
Byaas is a handcrafted home décor brand based in the New York area. We design brass and metal pieces for the home: vases and planters, candle holders and candelabras, sculptural candles, tabletop pieces, incense holders, bookmarks, lighting, furniture and wall art. We call them modern heirlooms, pieces made to be used every day and passed down.
Who designs Byaas pieces?
Every piece begins as a hand drawing by our founder and creative director, Bhavini Khullar. Those drawings are then translated into metal by artisans in our family workshop, which has been working in metal for more than 70 years.
Craft and Materials
Are Byaas products handmade?
Yes. Our pieces are handcrafted or hand finished by skilled artisans. Many use Repoussé, a traditional technique in which a design is hammered by hand into a flat sheet of metal until it rises in relief.
What is Repoussé?
Repoussé is the art of shaping metal from the reverse side with hammers and hand tools to create a raised design. No two hammer marks are identical, which is why each piece carries its own character.
What materials do you use?
We work primarily in brass, along with copper, stainless steel and iron. Select pieces pair metal with glass, marble or crystal. Finishes include brushed, burnished, polished and antique brass, chrome, and matte black and white.
Why does my piece look slightly different from the photo?
Because it was made by hand. Small variations in finish, color, texture and size are a natural part of handcrafted work and are not considered defects.
Custom, Trade and Private Label
Can Byaas pieces be customized?
Yes. We can adapt size, finish and material on many designs, and we develop new pieces from a sketch, reference image or brief. Lead times and minimums depend on the piece, so write to us at info@byaas.com with what you have in mind.
Do you manufacture for other brands?
Yes. Alongside our own collection, we offer private label and contract manufacturing for retailers, designers and brands, from product development and sampling through to production.
Do you offer wholesale or trade pricing?
Yes. We work with retailers, museum stores, interior designers and hospitality projects. Apply through our wholesale sign-up form or email info@byaas.com.

Care
How do I care for brass?
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. For a deeper clean, wipe with a slightly damp cloth and mild soap, then dry right away. Avoid abrasive cleaners, vinegar, lemon and the dishwasher, all of which can damage the finish.
Will my brass change color over time?
Brass naturally deepens in tone as it meets air and touch. This patina is part of the material's beauty. If you prefer the original brightness, a dedicated brass polish used once or twice a year will restore it.
Can I put water and fresh flowers in your vases?
Yes, in pieces designed to hold water. Empty and dry the vessel after each arrangement so water does not sit against the metal.
