Peacock & Palms Repoussé Solid Brass Heirloom Vase
A single hand-forged solid brass vase, about 6" H × 11.7" W, with peacocks and palm foliage raised in high relief and a burnished brass finish.
What it is: A solid brass vase with a flared rim and a stable base. The scene of peacocks framed by palm fronds is hand-beaten from the reverse side using the repoussé technique, over 80+ hours of work.
Why it matters: The peacock and palms carry meaning (vision, royalty, and peace), and the heavy-gauge brass is made to be passed down. Each piece is individually made, so no two are exactly alike.
How it works: The relief is raised by hand from the back of the brass. The finish develops a unique patina over time. The brass is hand-polished to a burnished finish. It is delicate, so wipe it clean after each use and do not leave water standing in it for long, because that can tarnish it. For flowers or plants, set a plastic container inside the vase to hold them.
When to use it: As a sculpture on its own, or with flower arrangements, since the flared rim and stable base suit both.
What alternatives exist: The Sculpted Crane (14.25" H) is the larger repoussé vase, and the Twin Fish (13.2" H) is taller and narrower. The Museum-Style Statement Vase has texture without a pictorial scene.
Care: Brass needs careful care and changes color over time. That is natural oxidation, and many people value the patina. Dust with a soft cloth. To clean, use a soft cloth dampened with mild dish soap and warm water, wrung out until damp but not dripping, then a second cloth dampened with plain water, then dry fully. Do not use vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda, salt, abrasive cleaners, bathroom sprays, or bleach. To restore a tarnished piece, use a dedicated brass polish such as Brasso sparingly, because over-polishing removes the surface treatment.
