Wholesale Brass Candle Holders: What US Buyers Should Check for Quality, Finish and Packaging
By Bhavini Khullar | Founder, Byaas | Adjunct Professor, Montclair State University
Short answer: Check candle fit (most US tapers have a base of about 7/8 inch), base stability, finish consistency, clean welds and underside, and individual packaging before buying wholesale brass candle holders.
American shoppers were expected to return about $850 billion worth of merchandise in 2025, and nearly one in five online purchases (NRF and Happy Returns, 2025). Every one of those returns started as a small disappointment: a candle that wobbled, a finish that looked different in person, a scratch that arrived in the box.
Candle holders look simple, which is exactly why they are easy to get wrong. I wrote this checklist because a holder that tips, marks a table or will not grip a standard taper costs you more than a return. It costs you the customer. Here is what to check on any wholesale brass candle holder, and how we approach each point.
Candle fit
Most US taper candles have a base of about 7/8 inch (22 mm), though some run closer to 3/4 inch depending on the brand and how the candle is dipped or molded. A good holder grips a standard taper firmly without forcing it. Ask which diameters the cup is designed for, and test with the candles your customers actually buy. For tealight holders, check the cup depth: some metal cups are too shallow for modern tealights.
Weight and stability
A tall, slim holder needs a heavy enough base and a wide enough footprint to stay upright, especially in homes with children or pets. Solid brass helps because it is dense. Put the sample on a table and nudge it. If it rocks, the base is too light or too narrow. Compare the Piano Round holder with a sculptural design like the Helix spiral base holder: two different solutions to the same stability problem.
Finish and consistency
Finish matters more on candle holders than almost anything else, because they sit near a flame and are handled constantly. Ask whether the finish is lacquered, check that it is even, and if you are buying pairs or sets, make sure the tone matches. Our brass finish guide and lacquered vs unlacquered post explain the differences.
Welds, underside and table safety
Turn it over. A clean, flat contact surface will not scratch wood or stone, and felt pads can be added if needed. Look at where the cup meets the stem and the stem meets the base. A well-dressed weld is invisible under the finish. Lumpy solder or sharp edges underneath are a warning sign about everything else.
Tealight holders and candelabras
Tealight holders are affordable, giftable and made for grouping. The Concentra tealight holder comes in three sizes for that reason. Candelabras carry more weight and more drama, so they need a wide, heavy base and clean arms. The Cascading Nine-Arm candelabra anchors a dining table. The Crystal Teardrop wall sconce candelabra works on a wall in matte black iron.
Sets, singles and the restyle story
Sets of two, three or six feel generous and look complete. Singles let customers build a collection. Offer both. The Thread of Togetherness holders come in sets of three and six, used together or apart.
When you sell them, sell the restyle. Your customer is buying fewer things. Show her that one set of brass holders works with burgundy tapers in autumn, ice blue with a velvet ribbon in winter and warm amber in spring, three of the colors Emily Henderson's team expects to define 2026 (Emily Henderson). A candle holder she never needs to replace tells a far more lasting story than any price tag.
Wax and cleaning
Drips are part of life. Choose shapes that are easy to wipe and cups that can be cleaned without damaging the finish. Share our guide on how to clean brass candle holders with customers or slip it into packaging.
Packaging and breakage
Brass is strong, but its surface scratches. Every piece should be individually wrapped so nothing rubs, and sets should travel together. Ask how products are packed for freight and whether the packaging is retail-ready.
Variety and price
A well-built range might include an entry holder like the Dancing Ribbon holder, a mid-range set like the Thread of Togetherness set of 6 and a statement piece like the Crystal and Black Matte candelabra. Browse the full candle holders collection.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size candle fits a brass taper holder?
Most are designed for standard tapers with a base of about 7/8 inch. Check the stated fit and test with your usual candles.
Is solid brass the right choice for candle holders?
Yes. Solid brass is heavier, more stable and keeps its color if the surface wears. Plating can show base metal at the edges over time.
Are brass holders safe with real flames?
Brass does not burn, but it can get warm. Use sturdy candles, keep flames away from fabric and paper, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
